Children's Privacy Notice (COPPA)

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") gives parents control over what information websites collect from their children under the age of 13. This notice explains how Kateri handles children's information.

1. Children do not create Kateri accounts

Kateri accounts are for parents, guardians, and camp staff who are at least 18 years old. Children under 13 do not sign up, log in, or use the Kateri platform directly. Information about a child in Kateri is entered by their parent or guardian (or, at the parent's direction, by camp staff).

2. What information about children is collected

Only the information the parent or guardian chooses to provide for registration:

  • Camper's first and last name, date of birth, gender.
  • Grade level and school (optional).
  • Emergency contact information for the child.
  • Medical information the parent chooses to share (allergies, medications, doctor, insurance card).
  • Photo, ID, or vaccination documents the parent uploads.
  • Custom question answers and consent form signatures the parent submits.

3. How the information is used

Solely to operate the camp registration and program for that child: enrollment, rosters, medical safety, parent communications, and payments. Children's information is never used for advertising, profiling, or resale.

4. Who can see it

  • The parent or guardian who entered the information.
  • Staff at the specific camp the child is registered with, according to their role.
  • Emergency responders when medically necessary.
  • Kateri engineers, only for maintenance or security investigation.

Children's information is never shared with other camps or with third-party marketers.

5. Parental rights

As the parent or guardian, you may at any time:

  • Review the information Kateri holds about your child (visit the "Campers" section of your parent portal).
  • Correct or update that information.
  • Delete your child's camper record.
  • Request that Kateri stop collecting further information about your child.

Some information may be retained by your camp for legitimate business or legal reasons (e.g., financial records of a paid registration, incident logs required by state licensing). Contact your camp administrator to ask about retention.

6. Security

We apply the same protections to children's information as to adult information: HTTPS in transit, row-level security in the database, private file storage with short-lived signed URLs, and strict per-camp access scoping.

7. Contact

For any question about your child's information in Kateri, contact your camp administrator. They can help you access, correct, or delete your child's data, and can escalate to the Kateri team when needed.
